This site was located within Contract 4 (Navan–Kells and Kells bypass) of the M3 Clonee to North of Kells motorway scheme and was identified during testing carried out by Shane Delaney (IAC Ltd) in 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1271, 04E0916). It was excavated between 1 and 24 November 2006 and consisted of a number of isolated pits (averaging 0.68m by 0.39m by 0.15m), one isolated hearth (0.8m by 0.65m by 0.2m) and the possible remnants of a structure in the south-east corner of the site. This possible structure (c. 5m north-east/south-west by 1m) was represented by three stake-holes in a north-east/south-west direction, a post-hole at the south-west corner of the structure and a fourth stake-hole to the south-east of the post-hole. No finds were recovered from the site. During the testing phase of this excavation the presence of a possible cist burial on site had been suggested, but the resolution indicated that this was a stone fractured by agricultural activity and was not of archaeological significance.
This work was funded by Meath County Council and the National Roads Authority.

Editor’s note: Although excavated during 2006, the report on this site arrived too late for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
