Test-trenching was undertaken in the area of a proposed borrow pit in the townland of Castlekeeran, Co. Meath, adjacent to the M3 Clonee to North of Kells motorway scheme. There is a local tradition of a souterrain in the vicinity of the borrow pit. Eleven trenches were excavated at 20m intervals on the east side of the field and 8–10m on the west side of the field in the area of the suspected souterrain, with a combined length of 1.204km. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered.
