Pre-development testing was carried out on the site of a proposed dwelling and associated services at Pollanaskan, Co. Mayo, on 26 November 2007. The proposed development site is located immediately north-east of MA079–053, a ringfort with evidence for a possible centrally located souterrain. Testing comprised the excavation of five trenches (6m to 17m long) on the footprint of the proposed development. The topsoil averaged 0.4m in thickness and overlay mid-brown clayey sand subsoil and grey sand and gravel. No archaeological material was uncovered.
