2007:1212 - VARIOUS TOWNLANDS, Mayo

The Mayo group water schemes design build and operate (DBO) Bundle 2 Advance Works 3 project involves pipe laying between Balla, Ballyvarry and Turlough, near Castlebar and at Drumindoo, Westport, Co. Mayo. DBO Bundle 2 Advance Works 1 and 2 were the subject of an earlier archaeological licence, 07E0040 (see No. 1211, Excavations 2007). Additional works include the construction of reservoirs. Works comprising c. 100km of pipe laying will take place in road verges, within roads and in fields. Works will impact on the zone of constraint of 29 monuments. For each of these sites a proposed archaeological mitigation was agreed with the statutory authorities. Works are ongoing at the time of writing.
