Excavation of Site 4 took place on 10–13 September 2007 in association with a planned housing scheme. The site was one of a number identified as a result of an extensive programme of testing carried out under licence 05E0963 (Excavations 2005, No. 1078).
Two circular pits filled with charcoal-rich soil and heat-shattered stones were excavated at the site and no additional features were identified in the immediate vicinity. It is thought that these pits were associated with burnt-mound activity. The pits were located c. 35m north-west of a rectangular trough and c. 60m north-west of a stake-lined pit on Site 3 (see No. 1189 above, 06E0465). Both of these features on Site 3 were associated with burnt-mound activity. Another burnt mound (Site 10, excavated by David Bayley, Excavations 2006, No. 1372, 06E0471) was located c. 65m to the north.
