Pre-development testing took place on 27 September 2007 on a site for a house c. 50m from a Rock Art site located on a rocky outcrop to the north-west. Outcropping rock on the development site itself had been quarried in the 1950s to provide stone to pave the farm lane from the public road, and bedrock was still visible in places. Four test-trenches revealed a generally thin layer of topsoil overlying bedrock and natural clay subsoil.
