The site of the proposed development is located just south of Longford town and is the only empty plot in a row of newly constructed houses. It is situated just within the zone of archaeological potential for LF013–023 (site of castle). The likely location of the castle remains is the site of Mullagh House, located c. 100m to the west of the development site. Five trenches were excavated across the site of the proposed development. All five measured 1.8m wide and 10m long. All were excavated to a depth of between 0.35m and 0.5m. There was no evidence of any archaeological activity in any of the trenches.
