Testing was carried out over the course of one day in waste ground off Pound Lane in Rathkeale in advance of the development of five detached houses and associated works. Seven trenches of various lengths and depths were enacted through the site to reveal that this site has been extensively disturbed in recent times, with the deposition of modern refuse and building rubble from the ground surface penetrating many areas of the subsoil, which was an undulating course of bedrock rising in many places to the surface. Nothing of archaeological significance was encountered.
