A test excavation was undertaken on a greenfield site within the zone of archaeological potential of the historical village of Croagh (LI020–123), 150m to the north-east of the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian abbey.
Two test-trenches were excavated using a mechanical excavator. The excavation uncovered a series of thirteen plough furrows and two shallow ditches or gullies orientated north–south. No datable material was recovered from these features. Monitoring of the site will be carried out in 2008.
