Testing was undertaken as part of an assessment for a housing development in Ardagh, to the north-east of the village crossroads. The site was located within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town. Two farm buildings were also assessed. The site was under grass at the time of testing. Nine trenches were dug by machine across the site, measuring 15–30m in length, 1.5m in width and an average of 0.6m in depth. Nothing of an archaeological nature was found.
