Monitoring of development for sewage works, pipelines and associated works for the Carrick-on-Shannon sewage scheme began in September 2007. The works progressed through ground previously disturbed by concentrations of service ducts in most areas. Two dressed limestone blocks found in a short section of trench for a manhole were the only features of archaeological importance. This quayside location was on the boundary between Townparks and the River Shannon as then marked on the 6-inch OS map of 1838. Less than 2m of the former quayside was exposed and the pipe was fitted beneath the former quayside.
The work continues into 2008.
