An assessment was carried out in February 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. This assessment of Contract 3: Testing Area 4 involved the mechanical excavation of nineteen test-trenches in three townlands. Six trenches were excavated in Fatharnagh, nine in Trumra and four in Clonadacasey in areas where access was previously denied because of the presence of badgers. The testing amounted to the excavation of an additional 926.24 linear metres of trench. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered in the excavated trenches.
