An assessment was carried out in April 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. This assessment of Contract 1: Testing Area 6 involved the mechanical excavation of fourteen test-trenches in three fields where access was previously denied because of the presence of badgers. The majority of the area tested was planted with trees and this restricted the layout of trenches. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered in any of the excavated trenches.
