The site is located just north of the Portlaoise/
Mountrath road (N7) in an area of rich archaeological remains. The location of the proposed development of a slatted unit is within the archaeological exclusion zone around LA017–003 (Early Christian and later complex) and is 7m north of the burial-ground LA017–003(07).
Despite the proximity of the site of the proposed development to known archaeological sites, the test excavation at Clonenagh produced no find or artefacts of an archaeological nature. The only feature recorded was the truncated remains of a cultivation furrow in Trench 1, while the only bone recorded was in Trenches 1 and 2 and appeared to be modern in date.
