An assessment was carried out in February 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/
M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The testing of Contract 3: Testing Area 1 involved the mechanical excavation of one test-trench through the townland boundary between Clonkeen and Clonboyne townlands. The townland boundary comprised an earthen bank lined with trees and a parallel ditch. No archaeological features or deposits were identified in the test-trench.
