An assessment was carried out in February 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. This assessment of Contract 3: Testing Area 3 involved the mechanical excavation of six test-trenches in the townland of Clonadacasey in areas where access was previously denied because of the presence of badgers. The testing amounted to the excavation of an additional 401.414 linear metres of trench. No archaeological features were identified within any of the trenches.
