An assessment was carried out in February 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. This assessment of Contract 2: Testing Area 2 involved the mechanical excavation of three trenches in areas where access was previously denied because of the presence of badgers. One trench was excavated through the townland boundary between Corraun and Coolbally and one trench through the Corraun and Boherard townland boundary. Both boundaries consisted of tree-lined banks. A third trench was excavated in the townland of Friarsland. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered.
