The site was uncovered during archaeological work for the NRA in advance of the N9/N10 Waterford to Powerstown road scheme, Phase 2. The initial registration number for this site (E3397) was for monitoring of the developers’ topsoil-stripping in the townland of Kilkeasy, Co. Kilkenny, undertaken in May 2007. An earth-cut feature, a potential kiln, was uncovered.
This feature was excavated under registration number E3535 in June 2007. There was no evidence for in situ burning, or any industrial material in the pits fills. The second-edition 6-inch OS map (1903) depicts a farmyard close to the feature and it was interpreted as a hollow which had been filled in during land clearance on the farm.
