This site was located within the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme along Contract 2, Phase 4B, Knocktopher to Powerstown and was excavated between 3 and 7 December 2007. An isolated pit/possible kiln and post-hole were the only archaeological features found. The pit (1.66m by 1.1m by 0.61m) was oval with steep sides and an almost flat, slightly concave base and had a north-east/south-west orientation. Evidence for in situ burning was present along the base and on the lower parts of the sides. Three alternating charcoal-rich fills and reddened heat-affected fills, which overlay the bottom fill, also suggest intensive use of fire within the pit. The only visible organic remains, besides charcoal, were highly fragmented occasional pieces of burnt bone but it seems likely they were intrusive elements. A chert flake was the only artefact recovered.
