This site was located within the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme along Contract 2, Phase 4B, Knocktopher to Powerstown on a high point of the gently raised land and was excavated between 10 and 18 December 2007. A shallow and roughly circular depression in the ground, visible even before the site was opened up, turned out to be the remains of a natural pond (15m diameter), a focal point which attracted burnt-mound activity. Immediately to the east of the pond, deposits of blackened heat-shattered stones mixed with sandy and clayey silt and occasional to moderate charcoal inclusions overlay and filled two large connected pits (2.7m by 2.06m by 0.48m and 3.18m by 2.2m by 0.27m). A further two pits contained fire-cracked stones and six irregularly spaced stake-holes were driven into the bottom of the bigger of the two.
