Testing was undertaken within the townland of Gorteens at the site of the proposed SUPRAM site, IDA Park, Belview, Co. Kilkenny. Test-trenching commenced on 8 October and lasted for two days. This was carried out using a 13-tonne excavator with a flat, toothless bucket. A total of 25 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area.
Prior to testing, a programme of geophysical survey was carried out by Joanna Leigh of J.M. Leigh Surveys between 30 May 2007 and 1 June 2007 (07R0106). This revealed that, although natural responses dominated the readings, isolated responses might signify archaeological activity perhaps representing areas of burning. Testing targeted the areas producing possible archaeological anomalies. However, nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the testing programme.
