This site was located within the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme along Contract 2, Phase 4, Knocktopher to Powerstown, on a west-facing slope in heavily ploughed agricultural lands. An area 20m by 15m was stripped of topsoil on either side of a field boundary fence and six oval pits and a bowl furnace/clamp kiln were recorded. All the pits were located on the eastern side of the fence and contained burnt soil, heat-cracked stones and charcoal, measured from 0.44m by 0.4m by 0.08m deep to 1.1m by 0.98m by 0.2m deep and are interpreted as waste pits. The bowl furnace, 0.48m by 0.38m by 0.19m deep, was located on the west side of the fence. The cut was bright red in colour on its southern side and had obviously been subjected to considerable heat; a bulge outwards in the cut at this point represented the remains of a flue; large lumps of charred timber and burnt clay were recovered from the soils that filled it.
