This site was identified in the townland of Coolmore, Co. Kilkenny, in the course of monitoring for work carried out for Kilkenny County Council/National Roads Authority during the N9/N10 Waterford to Powerstown scheme (see No. 893, Excavations 2007, E3394). The site was identified to the north of a Bronze Age flat cemetery, consisting of shallow pits excavated in 2006 (Excavations 2006, No. 1009, E2514), and consisted of three isolated pits (112m OD; Chainage 21650). Excavation was carried out in April and May 2007.
A large circular pit was identified with in situ scorching along the base and an abundance of charcoal throughout the two distinct fills. This feature may have functioned as a hearth or a kiln; however, no flue or lining was evident.
Two additional features each contained a single fill, with no obvious function. No dating evidence was recovered from any of the features.
