A new housing development in proximity to the walled medieval town of Callan had a planning condition attached requiring archaeological monitoring. A cluster of four shallow pits was uncovered in which a little Leinster cooking ware was present, placing the pits in the 12th/13th century. The only other features noted were land drains which dated in the main to the 20th century.
