Unlicensed monitoring took place of the excavation of test-pits and slit-trenches, on a 136ha farm being considered for development. Five slit-trenches and 91 test-pits were dug. The test-pits were distributed throughout the property; the slit-trenches were situated on the line of two water mains which needed to be located.
The test-pits were c. 0.6m wide and up to 3m deep, depending on the bedrock. They ranged from 3–4m in length. The slit-trenches were up to 1m wide, the depth and length depending on the location and depth of the water main.
Very little of archaeological significance was found: a single animal bone 1m below the surface in a peaty layer beside a stream and a stone culvert of unknown date. The topsoil was mostly about 0.3m deep, and the upper, shattered, part of the bedrock was quite high in places.
