This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. The site was initially identified, during the course of testing, as comprising one pit filled with fire-cracked stone.
An area of 100m2 was stripped of topsoil for investigation. Topsoil clearance and excavation work took place from 29 March 2007 to 24 April 2007.
During the course of excavation one small circular pit was identified, measuring 0.29m in diameter with a depth of 0.1m. The fill comprised dark-black charcoal-enriched clay silt with 15% unburned sandstone inclusions. It is possible that this feature is related to the enclosure site E2984 (No. 837 above) located 80m to the east.
