This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. Centreline trenching identified a pit on a gentle south-facing slope in open terrain at the western edge of the CPO. The pit was 0.65m in diameter and 0.28m deep. Four fragments of iron slag were recovered during testing. Excavation added nothing more to the understanding of the pit and no further slag was recovered.

Ploughing of an adjacent field located outside the CPO during the excavation revealed what appeared to be an archaeological feature associated with burning activities.
