Two burnt-mound spreads were located within the townland of Greyabbey, to the south-west of the existing N7 Nurney interchange and south of Kildare town, Co. Kildare, during an assessment. The site was subsequently excavated in September–November 2007 (see No. 811, 07E0864, Excavations 2007). In addition, there were a number of pits identified in test-trenches east of a ringfort bank (KD022–032). A small tanged iron knife blade was found in one of these pits. A radiocarbon date of AD 660–830 (SUERC-15177) was returned from a charcoal sample taken from the pit. This was from a holly sample, which would be contemporary with the ringfort. The developer redesigned to avoid this area.
