This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. An isolated pit was identified during testing by CRDS Ltd. Excavation in September 2007 revealed additional features, including a trough, several pits and a number of cultivation furrows within a cutting measuring 120m2. The site has been provisionally interpreted as the ploughed-out remains of a fulacht fiadh pending post-excavation analysis, which is currently under way. Radiocarbon dating and examination of the environmental remains should provide further information regarding the date and function of the site.
