Planning permission for construction of a single house, driveway, septic tank and garage at this site required that all topsoil-stripping/general ground reductions be monitored by an archaeologist. The site is situated across the road and c. 50m from the ruins of Fontstown Church and graveyard (KD031–014).
All topsoil-stripping associated with the development, which was carried out by machine fitted with a toothless ditching/grading bucket, was monitored. In addition, the spoil was raked through in order to determine the artefact-bearing potential of the topsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of the work.
