Monitoring of ground-reduction works associated with the construction of a new armoured vehicle garage at the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, was undertaken on a phased basis on 11–17 October 2007. The site is located within the overall zone of archaeological potential associated with the Curragh plains and to the west of the former site of an enclosure (KD023–061), which was removed by quarrying in the late 19th/early 20th century. This area of quarrying was subsequently extended and used as a landfill in the 1980s and 1990s. Part of the development area extended into the former landfill area and there was evidence that much of the site had been subjected to previous disturbance and ground reductions, probably associated with the final phase of use and ‘capping’ of the landfill site. All ground-reduction works required of the development were monitored and nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
