This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. Centreline trenching (CRDS 2006) identified a series of possible features, which, by their morphology, were given a suggested interpretation as being the truncated remains of a figure-of-eight cereal-drying kiln.
The area of excavation was extended beyond the immediate features and further possible features were identified. During the course of excavation all features proved to be non-archaeological. It is likely that the features, which contained charcoal-rich material, were the remains of either tree cover or scrub vegetation of uncertain date.
