This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. A total of 1250m2 was stripped of topsoil. Excavation revealed the remains of a shallow burnt mound located to the north of the site. It measured 13m by 10.5m and had a maximum thickness of 0.1m. It was heavily truncated by a field boundary and modern agricultural activity. No archaeological features were identified under the burnt mound.
A small pit was located c. 1m to the south-west; this was irregular in shape, measured 0.7m by 0.35m and was 0.5m deep. It contained a single fill of dark-grey silt clay with heat-shattered sandstones. A charcoal-rich shallow feature was identified to the south-east of site; this continued outside the road corridor and was linear in shape. It measured 10m long by 7m wide and was 0.5m deep. It contained several shallow deposits; the uppermost deposit contained two late medieval pottery sherds.
