Testing was carried out along the path of the proposed water pipeline that will run beneath the portion of the N78 that is located within the constraint area of KD035–010, Ardscull Motte, a national monument. This development will form part of the Srowland water treatment works and associated pipeline scheme, the majority of which was subject to assessment by Yvonne Whitty under licence 07E0223 (see No. 860 below). Due to the presence of the monument within the constraint area, it was necessary to carry out this section of the assessment under ministerial consent. Five trenches were excavated along the route of the proposed pipeline but nothing of archaeological significance was discovered. Further monitoring of works was recommended and will be undertaken at a future date.
