During pre-planning test-trenching at Manor West, Killierisk, Tralee, Co. Kerry, in advance of the proposed development of a community nursing unit, a series of post-holes and the faint remains of a circular structure defined by a slot-trench were discovered. During the excavation the circular feature defined by the slot-trench was not identified (it is surmised that the slot-trench was a minimal feature in the first instance); however, some of the post-holes were found to form a semicircular arc with an associated possible hearth. It is supposed that this structure is prehistoric, and probably Bronze Age in date, and may represent the remains of a temporary shelter.
