Test-trenches as a component part of an impact assessment were excavated at a proposed development site on the northern outskirts of Tralee town and straddling the urban/rural boundaries. A track machine with a 2m-wide flat grading bucket incrementally excavated six trenches. The topsoil was a mid- to dark-brown silty clay with an average depth of 0.4m. The subsoil was an orangish-yellow silty clay, of soft to moderate compaction, with occasional angular and sub-angular stone inclusions.
Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded within the trenches.
