Pre-development testing was undertaken at a proposed development site at Edward Street, Tralee, Co. Kerry. A total of fifteen test-trenches (T1–T15) were excavated using a mechanical track machine utilising a flat grading bucket. The total length of trenching was 551m. The stratigraphy of these trenches generally comprised an average 0.1–0.2m of concrete or tarmac overlying an average 0.4–0.6m of modern overburden material. Modern ceramics, glass, metals and red brick were recorded in the trenches. The subsoil encountered across the site was a consistent mid-orange silty clay. An ex situ limestone architectural fragment was retrieved from introduced rubble in Trench 3 in the south of the site. No archaeological stratigraphy, features or deposits were encountered during testing of the site.
