Testing was carried out on this double-arch random rubble bridge in the Killarney National Park to inform proposed conservation works. The bridge is listed in the Record of Protected Structures (reference 74–5) in the Kerry County Development Plan (2003). Two small test-trenches were hand excavated on the bridge. Trench 1 was excavated above the eastern abutment and mortared structural stones were revealed at a depth of 0.43m below the existing ground surface. Trench 2 was excavated above the central pier of the bridge. Stone slabs which were not mortared in place but are probably sitting on top of the random rubble pier were revealed just 0.05m below the existing ground surface. No further archaeological intervention was required.
