Following consultation with National Monuments it was recommended that testing should be undertaken in the area of a proposed dwelling house in Knockacarrigeen townland in north County Galway. The proposed development would be located on the east slope of Knockacarrageen Hill. There are a number of archaeological monuments in the area, while the RMP map indicates a field system (GA043–112) to the immediate north and north-west of the site. No trace of the field system survives aboveground. Four trenches were mechanically excavated in the area of the proposed development. The testing found no trace of the field system and all of the trenches excavated indicated a similar stratigraphy of topsoil overlying a natural gravel.
