Pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed commercial development at Gorteenacra on the outskirts of Athenry in County Galway. The development site is located in the vicinity of the medieval town and castle (GA084–001). Three trenches excavated as part of the testing revealed no features of archaeological significance. The stratigraphy consisted of sod and topsoil overlying natural layers.
