Investigations took place in May 2007 during the relocation of the Boer War memorial monument from its original position on the Gaol Square roundabout to land adjoining the east of Enniskillen Castle. The investigation took the form of the monitoring of the new foundation pit, measuring 3m by 3m and a depth of 1m. This was excavated using a machine fitted with a flat toothless bucket. Undisturbed subsoil was not reached, as the monument did not require deeper foundations. A concrete surface and a red-brick wall were found, which were possibly associated with one another and which had been disturbed with the insertion of two drains. All underlay a depth of modern infill. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
