Intermittent monitoring of groundworks associated with the LUAS C1 development from Connolly Station to the Point Depot (c. 15m wide by 1.5km long) was undertaken on behalf of the Railway Procurement Agency from July to November 2007. Pipe trenches were excavated through the present road surface and modern stone foundation layers to depths of c. 2–3m. Natural deposits of light-yellow riverine sand were occasionally exposed along the base of the excavated trenches. No archaeological remains were exposed and no archaeologically significant finds were recovered. The licence for monitoring of ongoing LUAS C1 groundworks was transferred to the Railway Procurement Agency project archaeologist Francis Mallon in November 2007.
