Pre-development testing was carried out of a site at The Cottage, Church Road, Dalkey, Co. Dublin. The development site is located to the south of Church Road at the north of the village of Dalkey. The property is located within the boundary of the historic town of Dalkey, DU023–023.
Testing was carried out on 14 November 2007. Two trenches were excavated across the proposed area of the development. The artefacts recovered from the test-trenches all date firmly from the late 19th century to the present date. Some of these were retrieved from the deepest layer of topsoil/disturbed ground and therefore place the earliest identifiable human occupation of the site within this period. No evidence for archaeological material or cultural layers was observed in any area of the proposed development site.
