Monitoring was undertaken in advance of groundworks associated with a redevelopment of Castlepark School. The school building, previously a grand house, is a protected structure, and neither it nor any other parts of the protected curtilage were impacted upon during the redevelopment works. Castle Park House appears to date from the earlier half of the 19th century, during which extensive construction and landscaping works took place over the site.
The monitoring programme found evidence for this 19th-century construction and landscaping work; however, no earlier features were identified. No subsurface remains of the original stable-yard complex, such as a cobbled surface, were noted and it appears that the entire site area had been subject to extensive relandscaping over the 20th century.
