Pre-development testing was carried out on a site in Balcurris townland, St Margaret’s Road, Ballymun. The development will consist of several football pitches and all associated services. The test excavation was undertaken over four days, from 8 October 2007. In total fifteen trenches were excavated across the proposed area of development.
The development site is located in the former sports ground of Siloge Park and borders the zone of archaeological potential for DU014–022, a ringfort site. Test excavation undertaken in the area of proposed development did not identify any features of archaeological potential. No evidence for archaeological material or cultural layers pre-dating the 19th century was observed in any area of the proposed development site.
