It is proposed to construct seventeen dwellings and self-contained flats as part of a redevelopment scheme at Nos 41–61 and 67 Canal Street, 1–18 Sinclair Street and 4–6 New Street in Newry. Eight test-trenches were excavated across the site to evaluate its archaeological potential. In addition, all house foundations, topsoil-stripping and ground reduction across the entirety of the site was monitored. This revealed that the site has been extensively disturbed in the recent past, with quantities of building rubble present in the topsoil. No archaeological activity was uncovered during the testing.
