The proposed development consisted of a production building, new jetty, storage facility and associated carpark. The plant will be located along the east bank of the River Foyle some 5km from the city of Derry at Lisahally Port. A programme of archaeological trial investigations was undertaken. Six trial-trenches were investigated on the site. All trenches were mechanically excavated with the use of a machine with a flat-bottomed toothless bucket. Undisturbed subsoil was exposed in each trench and testing showed that the area lies on a substantial mound of built-up rubble with no archaeological deposits being found within the trenches.
