Archaeological evaluation of the local distributor road being constructed in the townland of Ballynagalliagh, Co. Derry, took place on 14–20 September 2007 in the form of monitoring of topsoil removal. The distributor road leads north from a roundabout on the new Skeoge link road, will cross two fields and diverge to join the existing Upper Galliagh road, which lies c. 500m north of the new Skeoge link road.
All stripping of topsoil for the line of the proposed road was carried out by a back-acting machine equipped with a toothless bucket. All topsoil was removed down to the yellowish-orange subsoil, which existed at a depth of c. 0.2m below ground level; this consisted mainly of fragmented and/or degraded schist bedrock.
No archaeological deposits or features were uncovered.
