An application to Cork County Council to construct a single dwelling house at Killawillin, Castlelyons, led to a request for an impact assessment to be prepared. The site is located within the constraint zone for a possible ringfort (CO045–042) and a fulacht fiadh (CO045–043) and it was required that a test excavation be carried out as part of the assessment. In all, five test-trenches were placed across those areas where maximum ground disturbance was envisaged. These were all excavated to a level into the natural subsoil and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in any of the investigated areas.
