Monitoring of the Grand Parade streetscape renewal scheme Phases 3 and 4 commenced in January 2007 and was completed by October 2007. The scheme is situated within the zone of archaeological potential for Cork city and is c. 10m east of the medieval city wall. The features revealed were associated with the 18th-century reclamation and culverting of this area of the city. The stratigraphy across the site generally consisted of post-medieval dumped material which overlay clay and mud layers. A section of wall was exposed at the south-western end of the Grand Parade. It consisted of random rubble with at least two phases of later activity. Due to the limited nature of the ground disturbance, it was not possible to determine the exact nature and extent of the feature. It is possible that the feature is associated with the front property/boundary wall of the buildings on Grand Parade. The feature was recorded and retained in situ. Phases 1 and 2 were completed in December 2006 (Excavations 2006, No. 311).
